A History of Popular Music – The 2010s
While I found the endeavor of summing up previous decades almost within grasp, this decade made it difficult to arrive at anything particularly universal. Unlike previous decades where everyone pretty much watched the same TV shows and movies and when everybody was down with Prince, this last decade was more about tailoring our experiences than it was about sharing them. Dance music became increasingly cliquish and popular music has never seemed as far from an underground that itself is increasingly bifurcated by subsets of sonic taste. Being aware that few of us had the same musical experience over the last decade, this selection attempts to create the most inclusive experience from the most worthy artists of the last ten years.
