In My Room - Music For My Bedroom

I do find my music preferences flux with a change of location in the same way topics of conversation are influenced by who you’re speaking to. If Vancouver is a beautiful younger woman with infinite potential but not much to say, Berlin isn’t empirically attractive and smells vaguely of cigarette smoke and bad life choices, but for some intangible reason drives you wild with desire. This explains why when I walk through the city with which I’m engaged in a torrid love affair, the music pulsing through my headphones tends to be darker and with sharper edges, seemingly curious about what goes on in the illicit clubs I pass.  

That being said, having recently moved into a new apartment with exposed wood and sprawling plantlife, overly modern and especially electronic music somehow seems as discordant as playing dubstep at a funeral. The environment seemed to require a more tender selection of analog sounds, which while reflecting my life in Germany draws much of its sonic inspiration from France, South America, and parts of Africa. The sedated tiki sound that opens the mix eventually gives way to a selection of jazz and lush ambient songs that are perfectly willing to hang in the background and help decorate the room that I was quickly able to regard as home.
